Moon Dancer - Sandhill Crane - 30x40 Oil on canvas

This painting is for the prestigious exhibition ‘Birds in Art’ 2016 and when planning I knew immediately that I wanted to paint a crane, or heron, or swan… something graceful with a long neck. I thought of how cranes dance when attracting their mates, but wondering how to best portray that elegance? Knowing that the painting would be up against the top painters in the world, it had to be original and unique. Eventually I dreamt up a sandhill crane dancing and bowing against a rising moon and it worked beautifully!
